The Airport Security Department manages systems and procedures to ensure passenger and employee safety while maintaining federal compliance and the Airport Security Program.
Federal regulations mandate controlled access to security-sensitive areas. The Airport uses an Electronic Security System (ESS) and Airport Identification Badges, processing over 48,000 daily access requests. The ESS covers passenger terminals, perimeter buildings, 28 miles of fencing, fuel farms, power plants, and roadways, while supporting TSA screening checkpoints and baggage systems.
The Airport Security Program (ASP) outlines measures for federal compliance.
TSA conducts regular compliance tests. Failures may result in civil penalties and fines. To ensure compliance, the Airport provides comprehensive security training, a Security Handbook, yearly refresher courses, an Administrative Penalty Procedure, a bi-monthly newsletter (Good News/Badge News), and security inspections.
The Credentials Office handles ID badge issuance, security training and testing, background checks, badge audits, and parking and airfield vehicle passes.
Security Compliance staff conduct inspections and testing, investigate violations, oversee security contracts, coordinate construction and event access, and verify security measures.
The Security Systems Manager ensures ESS and CCTV functionality, oversees maintenance contracts, tracks equipment damage reimbursement, and reviews construction project security requirements.
