Detroit Metro Airport Willow Run Airport Business

YIP Planning and Development

Comprehensive master planning and development initiatives for Wayne County Airport Authority facilities.

Willow Run Airport (YIP)

Airport master plans are comprehensive studies of an airport, completed every 7-10 years, to identify a plan for infrastructure improvements that are needed to meet anticipated aviation demands and FAA safety standards. The current Willow Run Master Plan was completed in 2017.

Willow Run Airport has seen many improvements recently and is poised to offer the aviation industry one of the most updated airfields in the region. Existing and current projects, along with projects planned for the near future, is allowing the airport to configure itself into a safer, more user friendly place to do business. These improvements have brought added jobs and revenue to the airport as well as the community. Planning and implementation of these improvements are done in phases, each noted within the Master Plan. We at Willow Run Airport are excited about the future and look forward to continually serving our surrounding communities and the aviation industry.

Capital Projects

State of Michigan Act 90 Section 259.115 requires preparation of an O&M Budget which itemizes current operational expenses and a budget which outlines capital outlay necessary for the operation and development of the airport.

Projects within the CIP are typically funded by General Airport Revenue Bonds (GARB), backed by the revenue of signatory airlines operating at DTW, and by FAA Airport Improvement Program (AIP) grants, where eligible and awarded.
