The Special Services Department oversees the Airport Response Center (ARC), which manages Police, Fire, and Security dispatching, all 911 calls, and maintenance requests. The ARC operates advanced systems to identify incidents, dispatch personnel, monitor responses, and document activities.
Communications Specialists utilize hundreds of cameras for surveillance and send mass notifications, ensuring coordinated communication and safety across Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport and Willow Run Airport.
Additionally, Special Services is responsible for emergency management, including implementing the Federal Aviation Regulation (FAR) Part 139 Emergency Plan for both airports. The team conducts regular training, drills, and a full-scale exercise every three years with airport stakeholders to maintain readiness. They also manage 12 emergency response plans and operate both the Emergency Command Center and Mobile Command Center to support first responders during major incidents, collaborating closely with WCAA departments and external agencies.
